Watch your IPTV in Safari

Safari is the only major browser that plays HLS natively, and Wemovexa IPTV takes advantage of it: in Safari, video goes straight to Apple's own player with no hls.js involved. That changes a few settings and a few troubleshooting steps.

Why Safari behaves differently

When a channel starts, Wemovexa IPTV asks the browser whether it can play the application/vnd.apple.mpegurl type. Safari — on Mac, iPhone and iPad alike — says yes, so the player hands it the .m3u8 address directly. This is deliberate. On iPhone, JavaScript playback libraries depend on APIs that are only partly available, while Apple's native engine is more reliable and easier on the battery.

In practice this means:

The HTTPS relay of the built-in proxy is still essential: Safari strictly blocks HTTP content requested from an HTTPS page, and the relay rewrites segment lists so no request is left on plain HTTP.

Safari settings you should know

Autoplay

Safari often refuses to start a video with sound unless you did something first. If the player says "Press OK to start playback", click or tap the video, or press Enter. On a Mac you can change the rule for this site: Safari › Settings for This Website…, then Auto-Play › Allow All Auto-Play. iPhone and iPad have no such setting: a tap is always needed, and Low Power Mode can make the rule stricter.

Content blockers

Safari's blocking extensions work from rule lists. If a channel won't load, switch them off for this site: on Mac through Settings for This Website › Enable content blockers, on iPhone through the aA or page menu in the address bar.

Website data and Private Browsing

Your favorites, history and language choice are saved in Safari's local storage. Two things wipe them: Private Browsing, which clears everything when the tab closes, and Safari's anti-tracking protections, which may delete data for a site you haven't opened for several days. It isn't a malfunction; you simply enter your details again. To make it less likely, open the player regularly or install it (see below).

Installing the player from Safari

Wemovexa IPTV declares a web app manifest along with Apple's own tags.

There is currently no native Wemovexa IPTV app for macOS or iOS: these shortcuts open the same web player.

Full screen

The player's Full screen button enlarges the video to the size of the window and shows Wemovexa IPTV's own controls (play, channel guide, audio and subtitle tracks when the stream offers them). On a Mac, Ctrl ⌘ F or the green window button then hides Safari's interface. Arrow keys, Enter and Esc drive the whole interface, so an Apple keyboard or any Bluetooth keyboard works just like a remote control when the Mac is plugged into a TV.

Safari-specific troubleshooting

A channel stays black here but plays elsewhere

Your provider may only offer that stream as .ts, which Safari cannot play on its own. Try another quality of the same channel, or another browser — Chrome or Firefox on Mac use hls.js and the .ts fallback.

"HTTP stream on an HTTPS page"

The relay is switched off on this device: tap the button shown below the message to turn it back on.

The programme guide is empty

Now-and-next information comes from your provider's EPG data; if they don't publish any, the row reads "Programme unavailable". See EPG TV guide.

No channels in the list

Check the access you entered (server address, username, password) against the Xtream Codes web player page; for playlist URLs, see the online M3U player. More cases are covered in the FAQ and the Mac guide.

The steps at a glance

  1. Open the player in Safari — Open Wemovexa IPTV in Safari and enter your IPTV subscription access.
  2. Allow autoplay — On Mac: Safari › Settings for This Website › Auto-Play › Allow All Auto-Play.
  3. Check content blockers — Turn them off for this site if a channel doesn't load.
  4. Install the player — Mac: File › Add to Dock. iPhone/iPad: Share › Add to Home Screen.

Frequently asked questions

Does Safari use hls.js with Wemovexa IPTV?

No. Safari plays HLS natively, so Wemovexa IPTV passes the .m3u8 stream straight to it — more reliable and more power-efficient, especially on iPhone.

Why did my favorites disappear in Safari?

They are stored locally. Private Browsing clears them on close, and Safari may delete data for a site left unused for several days.

Is there a Wemovexa IPTV app for Mac or iPhone?

Not a native one at the moment. The player runs in Safari and can be added to the Dock or the Home Screen.
